I am so obsessed with our girls these days. Of course, I’ve always been obsessed with them as individuals, but as a duo, they are truly the best. Chloe was always in love with Clare, constantly wanting to hug on her and kiss her little forehead, but now that Clare has come into her own a bit as a toddler, I’m getting to see them more as “kids” and it’s so fun.
Some sweet things of note:
- When Clare wakes up in the morning, the first person she calls for is “Mommy” (of course), but the next person she calls for is “Sissy”. She wants to see Chloe and get a morning hug from her. Some days, Chloe has already left for the bus, and when I explain that to her, Clare will say, “I sad.” It’s enough to break your heart in half!
- At bedtime, after Rob and I say goodnight, we let Chloe go and “visit” Clare at her crib for 5 minutes (which usually ends up being around 20+ minutes). Chloe gets a blanket, goes and sits next to Clare’s crib and “reads” her stories, gives her hugs and just talks to her.
- Chloe is starting to help Clare with things, such as reaching a light switch or getting something off the dresser. She will go and pick her up, saying something like, “Come here baby, let Sissy help you!” Her instinct to care for and help her sister makes me so happy.
- Whatever Chloe is doing, Clare is right there with her. This will, of course, lead to some amount of conflict in the future, but for now, Chloe loves getting Clare’s attention and generally likes to let Clare play with her. Sometimes, in true big sister fashion, Chloe will try to manage Clare too much, and in true little sister fashion, Clare is not having it! But mostly, they play well together.
I find myself so often just looking over at them being sweet together and trying to take a mental photo so that I can savor that moment as much as possible. I feel so lucky to have these girls and I love the way they love each other.
