Well, to no one’s surprise, the Cannata gals never like to be late for a party – so much so, that they come two weeks early!

We welcomed Clare Margaret Cannata to our family at 4am on March 26th! She weighed 7lbs .5oz and was 19 inches long. She is pretty perfect and looks a lot like her sissy.

We had a bit of a rough two weeks due to surgery complications, but we are all home safe and sound now, adjusting to life with a new little one. Fortunately, Clare also takes after her sister’s demeanor and has been a dream baby, sleeping and eating well. She hardly ever cries and is just happy to be here.

Chloe is already the best big sister ever. I’ve always said she has the biggest heart, and that shines through in her new role. She is concerned when Clare cries, always wanting to help make her feel better and telling her, “It’s OK, baby sister.” She also wants to shower her with kisses, which we have to keep an eye on since the last thing this baby needs is a ton of toddler germs. But we let them snuggle as much as possible, and Chloe is delighted to help whenever she can.

It’s such a huge change bringing another baby into our world, but I’m so impressed with how well Chloe is handing it. I think the toughest part for her has been my inability to pick her up due to the c-section, but we hold hands a lot and try to get in lots of mommy-Chloe cuddle time. It’s hard for her to understand everything that is going on, but overall, she is doing wonderfully and seems to be genuinely happy to be a big sister.
We haven’t had much regression with Chloe – maybe a little more neediness – but so far, so good. She did insist on wearing Clare’s diaper once, which was truly hilarious. I think she knew it, too. This kid has a great sense of humor 🙂

I’m excited for Clare to get a bit more sturdy so that Chloe can interact with her even more. At the same time, I’m trying to soak up this newborn time. It’s so incredibly sweet and Clare will be our last one, so I want to savor it as much as possible!
For now, we are tucking in at home, enjoying this spring weather and adjusting to life as a foursome. So far, it’s incredibly sweet.
